Temps dropping with storm chances lingering
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Residents of Yuma and Imperial counties can expect another hot day Thursday, with high temperatures near 105 degrees in some areas.
While the lower deserts will remain mostly dry, the atmosphere is beginning to shift, setting the stage for potential storm activity in the coming days.
The main focus for showers and thunderstorms remains across Arizona's higher terrain, but a few isolated storms could drift into eastern portions of the region.
Gusty winds from any outflow may produce dust in spots, though the overall severe threat locally remains low.
Friday, however, brings a more significant chance for rainfall. A slow-moving low-pressure system moving into southern Arizona will increase moisture across the region.
Residents should be alert for isolated to scattered thunderstorms, some of which could produce heavy downpours and localized flooding.
While the strongest storms are expected farther east, isolated wet weather cannot be ruled out for Yuma and Imperial counties.
Looking ahead, the weekend will be cooler than normal, with highs dropping into the upper 80s. Lingering chances for showers and isolated storms remain on Saturday, though activity is expected to be lighter.
By Sunday, drier air will move in, bringing more typical desert conditions with temperatures climbing back into the low to mid-90s early next week.
In the meantime, residents should stay hydrated, plan outdoor activities for the cooler morning and evening hours, and monitor local forecasts in case any storm advisories are issued.
