Matadors secure fifth straight victory at home

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Arizona Western Matadors continued their impressive run with a home win Saturday night, extending their winning streak to five games as they defended their turf against Southwestern College from Chula Vista, California and won 3-1.

Arizona Western set the tone early with solid defense, led by Ishmael Mensah, who made a crucial sliding stop to clear the ball before trouble could set in.

That energy quickly transitioned into offense, as Noah Segura found space ahead of his defender and attempted to cross the ball into the box. Though it was blocked, the Matadors kept the pressure on.

Southwestern tried to flip the field after a failed AWC attack, but their long clearance landed with Justin Vallelian, who fired a shot just over the goal.

The Matadors kept pushing, and Mensah stayed active, this time on a throw-in. After a big bounce, he regained possession and sent a ball into the box, narrowly missing a teammate in scoring position.

Despite a few missed chances, the breakthrough was inevitable. Arizona Western eventually found the back of the net three times and secured the win, keeping their streak alive and their momentum strong.
