Central rolls past Southwest in City Championship showdown

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The City Championship rivalry once again belonged to Central on Friday night, as the Spartans jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Southwest 30-6.

Central set the tone in the first quarter with three quick scores. C.J. Acosta broke loose for a 36-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a short run from Matthew Lizaola.

Just before the end of the quarter, Joshua Garcia added a defensive highlight with a 30-yard pick-six, giving the Spartans a commanding 21-0 lead.

The offense kept rolling in the second quarter. Quarterback Luis Jimenez connected with Emiliano Morales on a 28-yard strike, and the Spartan defense forced a safety shortly after, stretching the lead to 30-0 by halftime.

From there, Central's defense did the rest, holding the Eagles scoreless until late in the fourth quarter. Southwest's lone touchdown came on a five-yard run from Daniel Dimas, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Spartans locked up bragging rights in El Centro once again.

With the win, Central continued its dominance in the rivalry and improved its momentum heading deeper into the season, while Southwest looks to regroup after a tough night in front of a packed rivalry crowd.
