Lady Matadors cruise in conference opener

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Western Volleyball made a strong statement to open Arizona Community College Athletic Conference play, sweeping the College of Southern Nevada on Wednesday night at "The House."

The Lady Matadors rolled to a 25-19, 25-14, 25-15 victory, improving their record to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in league action.

Blanca Terminel Lopez led the charge with 10 kills, three aces, and three blocks. Andrea Krgovic chipped in 11 assists and four digs, while Nehir Erimez added 13 assists and three digs.

"We're excited to be 1-0 in conference," said AWC Head Coach Loranye Chandler. "This was a good chance for the girls to get a look at a team we'll see a couple more times this season. With a new lineup, I thought they handled the little things really well."

The energy inside "The House" got an extra boost from the student section, something Chandler says made a difference.

"Anytime we can get students out here, it means a lot," Chandler said. "The girls feed off that support, and it really gave us a lift."

Arizona Western now turns its attention to a road trip Friday, when they head to Phoenix College for a non-conference matchup.
