More than 50 containers fall off cargo ship and into the water at Port of Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Dozens of shipping containers tumbled off a cargo ship and into the water Tuesday at the Port of Long Beach.

The Coast Guard said nearly 70 containers from the cargo ship "Mississippi" were in the water. Cardboard boxes and other items were bobbing alongside the containers.

It appeared workers were using high pressure water from a tugboat to keep the cargo from floating out to sea.

A Port of Long Beach spokesperson says they're working to determine what caused the mishap.

No one was hurt.
