Kilmar Abrego Garcia reunites with his family after being released

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been reunited with his family following his release from federal custody Friday.

His release comes months after he was wrongly detained and deported to an El Salvador prison and accused of being in a gang, spending nearly half a year away from home.

Garcia immediately returned to Maryland and reunited with family members. However, he now faces possible deportation to Uganda, according to immigration authorities.

ICE would have to give Garcia 72 hours notice before his removal, and his lawyers would get that time to to convince an immigration judge that Garcia would also have a likelihood of persecution or torture in Uganda.
