Onvida Health launches Psychiatry Residency Program

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Onvida Health recently launched a new Psychiatry Residency Program to help address mental health care needs in our area.

Hospital leaders say the launch will help expand access to behavioral health services across the region.

The program welcomes four new medical residents who will train and practice under the guidance of experienced mental health professionals.

The new resident doctors will be able to train in areas like child and adolescent psychiatry, addiction medicine, and psychotherapy.

"The goal there is to train them on how to be successful in taking care of our patients that need behavioral health intervention, but also to be able to serve in our community. They're going to be spending their first year here with us working in our medicine units, our clinics, and spending a majority of their time in their psychiatric clinic," says Dr. Kristina Diaz, President of Onvida Medical Group.

This marks the third residency program at Onvida Health, joining existing programs in family and sports medicine.
