Diamondbacks falter late once again, drop series to Rockies
DENVER (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Diamondbacks let up another lead in the latter half of the game to fall to the Colorado Rockies 6-5.
After signing on August 9 and pitching once in Reno, Nabil Crismatt got the start for the Diamondbacks and did more than hold his own. Through five innings of work, Crismatt allowed only three hits and one earned run.
The Diamondbacks did not give him any run support, however. They recorded four hits through the first five innings and could not crack the scoreboard.
Eventually Arizona erupted for four runs in the sixth inning with back-to-back home runs for Corbin Carroll and Lourdes Gurriel Jr., followed by Jake McCarthy scoring on an error and Tyler Locklear crossing home plate on an Alek Thomas base knock.
They would not hold the lead for long.
Jake Woodford allowed four runs in the next inning and the D-backs would not be able to recover. The Rockies tacked one more run on in the eighth to take a 6-4 lead.
James McCann hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, but it did not spark a comeback as Ketel Marte hit a weak pop-up in the infield to end the game.
After selling at the deadline, Arizona now sits at 60-65 and continues to fall back in the wild card race.
