Security alert issued for Mexicali travelers
MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY/T3) - A travel advisory has been issued in Baja California. The Mexicali Valley is being highlighted as a risk of travel by the United State governments.
U.S. citizens are being told to stay cautious if intending to travel.
Mayor Norma Bustamante was questioned about the issue, acknowledged the problem, but offered a hypothesis regarding the alert:
"I have a strong suspicion, at least, that all these threats and strong comments from the United States have other motives as well. You are perfectly capable of interfering with the United States' efforts on all of Mexico's borders, so I don't rule out that possibility, without, of course, denying the security problems," said the mayor.
During the first few days of August 2025, 15 homicides were recorded in the city, with a total of 130 so far this year.
According to statistics presented by the Attorney General's Office, this represents an increase of more than 4%.
