Family in New York mourns the loss of son killed in Puerto Rico

(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A New York City family is mourning the death of a beloved son and brother who was shot and killed in Puerto Rico after attending a Bad Bunny concert.

Authorities say 25-year-old Kevin Mares and his friends had gone to a nightclub outside Old San Juan in La Perla, a coastal community with a history of crime.

Several people near the group started arguing, before someone pulled out a gun and opened fire early Sunday morning.

Mares was hit in the abdomen and taken to a hospital, where he later died.

"We told him not to go outside...from the resort because we know Puerto Rican is not a safety place...What we asking the people if everybody knows what happened, who did this because if someone can help us because we don't know, and then we want justice," said Sandra Mares, Mares' mother.

Two other victims remain hospitalized. So far, no arrests have been made.
