President Trump announces Apple will invest $100 billion in U.S. manufacturing
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Apple is set to invest another $100 billion dollars to expand its operations in the U.S, and the White house says President Donald Trump is making the announcement official Wednesday.
The additional $100 billion adds to a previous $500 billion the tech giant committed to growing its domestic footprint.
The Trump Administration has made a push for Apple and other tech companies to return or produce more of their products in the U.S.
It's the administration's effort to have companies become less reliant on facilities mainly in China, India and Vietnam.
Apple is one of a handful of tech giants to announce more U.S. investment in recent months.
Texas Instruments made a $60 billion commitment to make semiconductors on American soil. AI chipmaker Nvidia also said it will manufacture supercomputers in the U.S.
