‘Kids Eat in Color’ founder offers tips to help kids eat better
(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Small children can have big ideas about what they do and don't want to eat, but not every meal has to be a battle.
The company "Kids Eat in Color" offers tips on how to feed your picky eater. It has more than two-million followers on Instagram.
Its founder, Jennifer Anderson, who is a registered dietitian, says the best strategy is to make eating veggies fun and silly, and just as important: What not to do.
"One of the thing we often want to do is, 'Hey, if you eat your veggies, I'll give you a cookie,' which might work and no judgment if you're doing that. At the same time, what you're really telling your child is veggies aren't good and cookies are really good, which is the opposite of what we want to teach them," Anderson shared.
Anderson has specific advice on children and candy. Delay introducing sugar as long as you can. Avoid negotiating about it, and try not to frame it as "bad" so your child doesn't feel guilty or scared.
