Search underway after private plane crashes off California coast

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A search is underway after a private plane crashed off the coast of Pacific Grove, California Saturday.

Flight radar indicates the twin-engine plane departed San Carlos Airport in the Bay Area at approximately 10:07 p.m. Pacific, heading to Monterey Regional Airport.

At around the same time emergency responders received 911 calls from neighbors.

Flight radar put the aircraft going down two to 300 yards off Point Pinos at around 10:38 p.m. Pacific.

The Coast Guard says three people were on aboard the plane at the time.

The FAA and NTSB will investigate.
