Trump signs Fentanyl Trafficking Bill into law with bipartisan support
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - President Donald Trump has signed a new bill into law aimed at cracking down on illegal fentanyl trafficking.
The legislation, called the "Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act," permanently classifies all fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I narcotics, the most tightly regulated drug category under federal law.
President Trump called the measure a "righteous blow" against drug traffickers and criminal cartels. The law also targets counterfeit versions of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid responsible for a surge in overdose deaths across the United States.
The bill passed with bipartisan support and marks a key policy win for the former president.
Trump has long pointed to illegal fentanyl trafficking as a justification for his hardline stance on border security and tariff threats toward countries like China, Mexico, and Canada.
