Black bear in Colorado rescued from storm drain

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A male black bear spotted in a storm drain was rescued in Colorado Springs, Colorado Thursday, authorities said.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Southeast Region (CPW SE) said they were assisted by the city's Public Works department who brought a key to open the storm drain's cover.

Footage from CPW SE shows the moment the bear popped its head out of the open drain and climbed out onto the street.

The bear then escaped up a nearby tree, the agency said adding, "Bears typically stay in trees until darkness when they feel safe to leave."

In a post on X, City of Colorado Springs described it as a "bearilliant rescue."
