Trump Administration withholds federal funds for California schools
(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The Trump Administration says it is withholding federal funds for California schools to the tune of $811 million.
The funds were already approved by Congress, but the U.S. Department of Education says it's now reviewing the funding.
California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond says the state will pursue legal action to make sure schools receive those federal dollars.
"The administration is punishing children for the sole reason that states refuse to cater to to Trump's political ideology. So we are here in California today to say we're not going to let that happen," Thurmond expressed.
Thurmond says the withdrawal of federal funding could impact after-school programs, migrant education and technology resources for students.
