American Airlines flight returns to Las Vegas airport due to engine fire

LAS VEGAS (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - An American Airlines flight had to return to Las Vegas because of engine trouble Wednesday.

Video taken of the flight just after take off appears to show smoke coming from one of the aircraft's engines. The flight was bound for Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to the FAA, the crew reported an engine issue after taking off from Harry Reid International Airport Wednesday morning.

The plane, an Airbus A321, returned safely at about 8:20 a.m. Mountain.

An airport spokesman said no injuries were reported among the 165 passengers on board.

The FAA says initial details are preliminary and it will investigate the incident.
