Tariff fallout more damaging than expected
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - President Donald Trump's trade war is causing a slowdown in growth, and global economists are not just warning the U.S., but other countries all across the world.
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development downgraded its growth forecast for the US to 1.6%. That's down from the previous projection of 2.2%.
The group cites higher tariffs, including retaliatory tariffs, and a slowdown in net immigration for the drop. A significant reduction in U.S. federal workforce is also mentioned as a factor.
The report expects the economic slowdown to be focused on the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China. The OECD is urging countries central banks to be on guard for the risk of higher inflation.
