Minnesota Governor Tim Walz pays respect to Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband

ST. PAUL, Minn. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Minnesota Governor Tim Walz paid respects to State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband at the state capitol.

The couple was shot and killed in what authorities called a politically motivated attack while another lawmaker and his wife were injured.

Governor Walz, accompanied by his wife, visited the growing memorial at the capitol Monday afternoon. The pair left a bouquet of flowers at a table just outside the House chambers.

Meanwhile, the suspected shooter, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, appeared in court where he faces multiple state and federal charges.
