California-based egg company recalls nearly two million eggs due to Salmonella outbreak

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - There is a major egg recall sparked by a Salmonella outbreak.

The August Egg Company is recalling nearly two million cartons of brown eggs after dozens of people became sick across several states, including California, Nevada and Arizona.

Symptoms, according to a news released published Saturday, include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps, and children younger than five-years-old, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems "are more likely to have severe infections."

The eggs have sell-by dates ranging from March 4 to June 19, and were sold mostly in Safeway and Walmart stores in nine states.

So far, the outbreak has sickened 79 people, with at least 21 who were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
