Manny Machado homers in first, drives in game winning run in seventh to help Padres win rubber game with Pirates.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Manny Machado hit a solo homerun in the first inning off the left field scoreboard, then added a SAC fly in the seventh inning as the Padres rallied late for a 6-4 win over

Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates held a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before the Padres bats came alive. Pittsburgh relief pitcher Tanner Rainey walked two of the first three batters he faced, the pinch hitter Elias Diaz made him pay with an RBI single to center. Rainey then walked Fernando Tatis Jr. to load the bases. Rainey was then pulled for Caleb Ferguson who surrendered an RBI single to Luis Arraez, the RBI SAC fly to Machado to give the Padres a 5-4 lead, followed by an infield RBI single off the bat of Tyler Wade.

"Quality at-bats in the seventh were unbelievable I mean Iggy gets us started with a walk," Padres manager Mike Shildt said. "Diaz great approach, you know, through the middle of the field. Tatti just took what they gave him, in his words, put him into action. They were going to be smart with him."

Robert Suarez nailed down the win for his 19th save of the season. The Padres improve to 20-10 at Petco Park and finished the six game homestand with Miami and Pittsburgh with a 4-2 mark, winning both series.

The Friars next begin a seven game road trip starting in San Francisco on Monday for a four game series followed by a three game series over the weekend in Milwaukee.

San Diego is 33-24 on the season and trail the Dodgers by two games in the National League West standings.
