One dead, 11 injured in early morning mass shooting in North Carolina

UPDATE (3:29 PM): Authorities in Hickory, North Carolina held a press conference Sunday to provide updates into the mass shooting which left one person dead and 11 others wounded.

Authorities say it happened at a party early Sunday morning when more than one shooter opened fire on a large crowd.

More than 80 shots were fired.

The person who died was 58-years-old. One of the other eleven victims is in critical condition.

"We don't believe that this was random and a circumstance that would endanger the community. All that we can see right now from the crime scene and the leads that we're following, it seems to be that those who initiated the shooting were focused on the folks at the party," said Major Aaron Turk with the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say they've interviewed some 70 people who were at the party, but have made no arrests.

The motive remains unclear at this time.
