President Trump announces tariff increase on steel imports
(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - President Donald Trump announced Friday an increase on tariffs for steel imports.
President Trump made the announcement at a steel facility in Pennsylvania.
"We're going to bring it from 25% to 50% - the tariffs on steel into the United States of America, which will even further secure the steel industry in the United States," announced Trump.
A 25% tariff on steel imports was initially made on March 12, which brought criticism from the American auto industry.
Trump placed tariffs on steel in 2018 during his first term, increasing the costs for cars and tools, shrinking output by over $3 billion in 2021.
