Hitting the snooze button may be bad for your health

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Your first instinct could be to hit the snooze button when your alarm goes off, but according to a new study that could actually be causing you to lose sleep.

The average snoozer tallies around eleven extra minutes in bed after the first alarm goes off, but the study's author says that it's usually quality sleep.

Those minutes can add up to around a night's worth of sleep per month. Losing sleep may increase the risk of cognitive impairment and affect your mood.

So what you can do to avoid that snooze? Set the first alarm as late as possible and change your bedtime by no more than 30 minutes per night, even on the weekends.
