U.S. judges block majority of Trump tariffs

(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - Judges at the U.S. Court of International Trade made a ruling on Wednesday to block the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.

The block includes tariffs placed on China, Mexico and Canada from earlier in 2025.

The court placed a permanent injunction with their ruling, stopping any and all upcoming tariffs, but not all tariffs will be put on hold.

Vehicle, auto parts and other similar tariffs will not be affected because they were part of the Trade Expansion Act.

President Trump announced tariffs to be placed on China, Mexico and Canada on April 2 by invoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

The court ruled that the Trump Administration did not meet the criteria and lacked the authority to use the emergency powers.
