Port of Los Angeles announces a decrease in imports

SAN PEDRO, Calif. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The Port of Los Angeles has been bringing in more cargo containers as companies try to get ahead of the tariffs, but it may not last much longer.

Officials announced Monday the Port of Los Angeles handled 843,000 containers last month. It's a 9.5% increase from April of last year. But in the first week of this month, imports are down 30%.

Gene Seroka, the Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, shared what it all means for the things people buy saying, "That likely means…still remains elusive."

Seroka says he's hopeful the port's strong financial policies, and its current infrastructure projects will help get them through a potential downturn in shipping.
