Hunter Hancock signs letter of intent to join CSU Bakersfield wrestling

The multi-sport star with the Shamrocks takes his talents to the mats in Southern California

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Hunter Hancock, a two-time state champion wrestler with Yuma Catholic, is heading to the Division I level.

Hancock signed his letter of intent Wednesday to join the CSU Bakersfield program in the fall.

"I visited a couple of, colleges, and, they they were all good, but Bakersfield just really stood out to me," Hancock said.

Of course, on the day he solidified his Division I opportunity, Hancock also had praise for the Rocks wrestling program.

"They made me way better as a wrestler, and I probably wouldn't be here without them," Hancock said.

Specifically, it was Yuma Catholic head coach Jeff Welsing who Hancock said made the most impact on him.

"He fixed all my problems out when I came in as a freshman, and that's why I just kind of skyrocketed as a wrestler," Hancock said.

As for what he'll pursue off the mats, Hancock says he plans on majoring in business administration, saying he was inspired by his family to do so.

"I really like what my uncle does, and I kind of want to do something like that in the future," Hancock said.
