UCLA student provides update on hunger strike in protest to Gaza conflict

LOS ANGELES (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A UCLA student undertaking a hunger strike to urge her school to "stop investing in my people's genocide" provided an update on day five of her protest action.

TikTok user @mayuhnaise, who is a third year Palestinian student, revealed in her latest video Tuesday the changes to her body she was experiencing from the strike.

"It's been pretty intense obviously I have not eaten food in five days. I've just been drinking water and coconut water and electrolytes," she said. "So the first thing that's very surprising and strange is I have been sweating more than I have literally sweat in my entire life…Next one is really gross…I'm consuming so much water and no food that water is coming out number one and number two."

Maya said she was continuing to talk to doctors during her protest action to make sure she was not doing "severe damage" to her body.

"This experience has given me so much perspective on what daily life is like in Gaza, but I'm choosing not to eat in strike, in protest, they're being forced to go through this," she said.
