Tracking hot temperatures for Mother’s Day weekend

The hottest temperatures of the year so far will take place this weekend with highs in the low to mid-100s.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Happy Friday! Yuma hit the hottest temperature of the year so far, with a high of 106°, which is 14 degrees above normal for this time of year. Unfortunately, El Centro is picking up MISSING data, but they still had pretty similar temperatures as well.

As high pressure strengthens over the region into the weekend, we can expect hot temperatures with highs around 100 degrees today and to around 105+ degrees over the weekend.

Temperatures will be hot and skies will remain clear through Saturday before some higher-level clouds roll in on Mother's Day.

Winds will also become breezy starting Saturday and continue into early next week as an incoming dry weather system eventually brings some cooler air back into the region plus, gustier winds.

These types of temperatures will result in widespread Moderate to even localized Major Heat Risk across the Desert Southwest.

Remember to practice heat safety throughout the day and prevent heat-related illnesses.
