Yuma Catholic softball walks it off to take down Valley Christian in the 3A quarterfinals.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Faith Donley hit an RBI single to walk it off for Yuma Catholic in a 4-3 victory over the Valley Christian Trojans in the AIA 3A Quarterfinals.
No. 3 Yuma Catholic moves on to the semifinals, it is their third straight semifinal appearance. No. 6 Valley Christian is eliminated.
In the third inning, Yuma Catholic took a 3-0 lead courtesy of Donley and Mailyn Milan RBIs. Valley Christian would rally back scoring three runs in the fifth inning to tie it 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Autumn Moffatt hit a two out triple to get in scoring position. The next at-bat, Donley would drive her in with game winning single to left field.
"It's so special," the walk-off hero Donley said after the game. "Growing up playing with [these girls], all the hard work we put in to practice day after day, all the blood, sweat, and tears we put in, we definitely deserve it."
"They've been in some really tough, highly competitive games, so they know how to handle that pressure now," Yuma Catholic head coach Byron Lackey said. "Faith is one of our fiercest competitors, and that's exactly what we want up to bat in that situation."
For Yuma Catholic, Donley went 3 for 4 with the two RBIs.
Cherish Trujillo pitched all seven innings, giving up two earned runs and struck out three.
The Shamrocks will now face No. 2 Show Low on Friday in the 3A semifinals.
