Matadors softball splits road doubleheader with Southern Nevada

HENDERSON, Nev. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Western Softball came away with a split on the road Saturday, shutting out the College of Southern Nevada in Game One before falling just short in Game Two.

The Matadors (25-18, 11-13 in conference) opened the day with a 4-0 win behind a complete-game gem from Krisilyn Corral, who also helped herself at the plate. Corral tossed all seven innings, allowing just five hits and striking out two. She added a double and a run scored in a two-for-four effort at the plate.

Analy Trejo got things going with an RBI triple in the third inning, and AWC padded the lead with run-scoring hits from Hannah Love, Jayleen Espinoza, and Destiny Martinez. Both Espinoza and Larissa Rueda finished 2-for-4 in the win.

Game Two saw the Matadors playing catch-up early, as Southern Nevada struck for four runs in the first two innings. AWC battled back, with RBIs from Espinoza, Trejo, and Martinez, but couldn't close the gap in a 6-3 loss.

Rauni Gallegos led the offense with a three-for-four performance, while Espinoza and Trejo each went two-for-four with a run batted in.

Arizona Western heads to Coolidge next, where they'll take on Central Arizona in a doubleheader on Friday, April 25. First pitch is set for noon.
