Suspect arrested and identified in Dallas school shooting

UPDATE (9:25 AM): The Dallas County Sheriff's Department has released a mugshot of the suspect in yesterday's shooting at Hutchins High School which left five people with gunshot wounds.

The suspect has been identified as 17-year-old Tracy Denard Haynes, Jr. According to an NBC affiliate in Dallas, he was identified by his name because Texas state law considers 17-year-olds to be adults.

Haynes surrendered to police hours after the shooting.

According to an arrest affidavit, an unidentified student let Haynes into the school through an unsecured door, and Haynes then walked down the hall and began firing indiscriminately, hitting five students.

All five were transported to area hospitals. The conditions of those injured ranged from serious to non-life-threatening

Haynes is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $600,000 bond.

Classes have been canceled for the week at Wilmer-Hutchins High School and counselors are being made available.

DALLAS (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The suspect in connection with Tuesday's shooting at a Texas high school has been taken into police custody. The suspect is currently in a Dallas County Jail.

Four students were injured when the suspect opened fire inside Wilmer-Hutchins High School just after 1:00 p.m. Central.

This was the second such incident at the high school in as many years.

Students were seen evacuating the main building after the shooting was reported.

It's still unclear what circumstances led up to the shooting.

School officials say all students have now been reunified with their parents or guardians.

The district said the gun did not enter the building during the primary intake period when students pass through metal detectors.

They did not say how the gun made its way into the building or what happened in the moments before shots were fired.
