Special Olympics track event brings together over 600 kids

Special Olympics Arizona brings together over 600 elementary and middle school kids for unified track competition.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Special Olympics Arizona brought together Special Olympics athletes and their peers for an unforgettable day of competition.

"It brings together kids pushing our inclusion program, so it's our special needs athletes partnered up with gen-ed students," the event organizer Mandy Evans said. "It's just everybody just being one. It's one team. Nobody's no different. We all celebrate everybody's skill level."

11 elementary and middle schools brought a combined 600 athletes to compete in track events at Gila Ridge High School.

"I had a lot of fun," a smiling James B. Rolle Elementary Liam Eddy said. "My favorite part of the event was the running."

Special Olympics Arizona also puts on bowling, tennis, swimming and other activities in Yuma.
