SCOTUS allows Trump administration to enforce Alien Enemies Act

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court delievered the Trump administration a major win.

The high court will allow the president to enforce the Alien Enemies Act for now. This means immigration officials can lean on a sweeping wartime authority to rapidly deport alleged gang members.

The unsigned decision in the case lets the white house invoke the 1798 law to speed removals.

Litigation over the use of the act will continue to play out in lower courts.

The Supreme Court did stress going forward, those to be deported should be given notice they are subject to the act and an opportunity to have their removal reviewed.

Attorneys representing the migrants have been concerned for what they say has been the government's rush to remove people under the act.

They claim the rush leaves those targeted with little to no time to file legal claims.
