Antelope athletics enters new era as Rhona Taylor takes over as athletic director

The Rams' volleyball coach now takes on one of the more difficult athletic director jobs in Yuma County, but is up for the challenge

WELLTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Antelope athletics is now heading in a new direction.

Rams' volleyball head coach Rhona Taylor has taken over as athletic director, taking over one of the tougher AD jobs in Yuma County.

"The future of Antelope athletics is looking fantastic," Taylor said.

One of Taylor's first goals is to add more sports for Rams athletes.

As of right now, the school has only eight sports available, football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, golf, and tennis.

"We're hoping next year that we can add track and we can add soccer," Taylor said.

Antelope union is about a 45 minute drive away from Yuma, with even further trips for other road games against Phoenix and Tucson area competition often required.

The travel creates one of Taylor's biggest initial challenges.

"Schedule planning, we have to drive long distances to compete because we're a small school, so we can drive any given day five hours just to compete in our region," Taylor said.

But through it all, Taylor knows how she'll be able to overcome any difficulties.

"We have great athletes, we've got a great community and we have great coaches and we, it takes the whole village the whole community and the whole town to make us successful," Taylor said.
