Arizona Travel ID deadline approaches: Are Yuma residents ready?

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - If you're planning to fly this summer take a closer look at your ID as a standard Arizona driver's license may not be enough to get you through airport security.

Instead, you'll need a federally approved form of identification, like a passport or the new Arizona travel ID.

The Arizona Travel ID is marked with a star in the upper right corner and is available as a driver's license and an identification card. Without it, or another compliant ID.

ADOT PIO Lordes Lerma says you may experience travel delays: "So by May 7, if you don't have a federal required or approved document you cannot travel by plane domestically."

Lerma adds that the IDs cost $25 and are valid for eight years, something local Sofia Bentley says makes this a better alternative for those who might not want a passport.

"There's a lot of people that can afford the passport, so I'm sure everyone can afford $25, so I would rather go with the ID," Bently explained.

Other locals don't agree, with Denisse Lopez saying, "I feel this is a waste of time. I don't feel like its really necessary because if you already have one why would you put something extra to it."

Lerma says meeting the deadline is important to avoid inconvenience later on: "We just advice them to have it ready at that time just to avoid any delays ion their travel."
