Locals react to 200+ day dry spell in Yuma possibly ending
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A 200-plus day dry spell may end with rain coming into Yuma, and locals say they're ready for the change in forecasts.
The longest recorded dry spell in Yuma is 380 days and the dry spell were currently in is at 216 days and with these conditions that can come to an end.
John Deruchia, a Yuma local, says, "I actually like the hot summer, but I wish it would rain. Some of us need it."
Incoming showers from Tuesday night through Wednesday morning have been tracked by our KYMA weather forecasters.
Deruchia shares what his pros and cons about the rain.
"I like sit out on the deck at my house, watch the lightning, that's really neat to see. I'm not too fond of the wind but what can you do about it," he explains.
I spoke with another local who shares his thoughts and even offers some advice for drivers on the road.
Gabriel Resendez says, "I'd be fine with just one day but more days would be nice since we haven't had rain in a while…Use your headlights, make sure to double-check your windshield wipers, and all the basic stuff so you don't get caught in the crossfire."
Now is a good time to start preparing as we are also tracking coming rain and possible storms to be here this Thursday.
