U.S. Marine Corps disposes of unexploded ordnance

Blast planned for Thursday

Foothills residents be warned - you may hear a big boom from the Barry M. Goldwater bombing range on Thursday.

The Marine Corps Air Station Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) will conduct a large controlled explosion on the range between six in the morning, and six in the evening.

EOD conducts similar blasts routinely to dispose of unexploded ordnance.

The effects of the explosion may be felt or heard from miles around the range.

The Goldwater range is located about nine-miles west of MCAS Yuma.  It was established in 1941, and is primarily used for air-to-ground bombing practice.  It is shared by the U.S. Air Force, the Air National Guard, and the U.S. Marine Corps.
