Brawley and San Luis split intense Lefty Martin Tournament doubleheader
SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The 68th Annual Lefty Martin Baseball Tournament opened with a competitive doubleheader between the Brawley Wildcats and the San Luis Sidewinders on Monday afternoon, with both teams coming away with a victory.
In game one, Brawley edged out San Luis 4-1 in a tightly contested matchup. The Wildcats broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a delayed steal that brought home Sergio Garcia.
San Luis responded in the bottom half with a single from Carlos Gonzalez, but the Wildcats' defense held strong. Brawley added another run in the fifth off a throwing error, and despite a sacrifice fly from Dzaid Cardenas that got San Luis on the board, the Wildcats sealed the win with a 5-4-3 double play.
San Luis bounced back in game two, pulling off a 6-5 victory to even the series. After falling short in the opener, the Sidewinders found their rhythm at the plate, stringing together key hits to outlast Brawley in a back-and-forth battle.
Both teams now shift their focus to their next tournament matchups as the competition continues.
