Imperial falls to Otay Ranch in semifinal thriller
Jimenez and Cardona shine despite season-ending loss
IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Despite an outstanding regular season, the Imperial Tigers saw their playoff run come to an early end with a tough 49-45 loss to the Otay Ranch Mustangs on Wednesday night. The defeat marked Imperial's first home loss of the season, dropping their final record to 25-5.
Elynna Jimenez and Nayeli Cardona did everything they could to keep the Tigers in the fight, each scoring 16 points. Jimenez continued her hot streak, having posted at least 16 points in each of her last four games. However, Imperial struggled to contain Otay Ranch's offensive attack.
Mackenzie Daffron led the way for the Mustangs with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, her best scoring performance since December 2023. Maleah Porch also contributed significantly, adding 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Tigers had no answers for Otay Ranch's momentum, as the Mustangs secured their 11th straight win to improve to 25-5 on the season. With the victory, Otay Ranch advances to face Bishop’s in the next round on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
For Imperial, the season comes to a close after an impressive campaign, but the playoff loss will surely fuel their motivation for next year.
