Lithium Valley holds community planning workshop
Residents provide input on future lithium development in Imperial County
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County is seeking community input on the draft Lithium Valley Specific Plan, a blueprint for guiding development around geothermal energy and lithium extraction.
The plan aims to create local jobs, improve infrastructure, and advance environmental justice, positioning the region as a leader in clean energy.
The workshops provide an opportunity for residents to learn about the plan and provide feedback. Attendees can engage in interactive discussions on how the plan will shape the future of Lithium Valley while addressing key concerns such as economic development and sustainability.
Brian Mooney of Rick Consulting emphasized the importance of ongoing discussions, stating, "We also are going to be holding some additional workshops with city councils. Coming up will be Westmorland and Brawley—we're still trying to schedule, but that should be coming up soon."
A Spanish-language workshop is scheduled for Thursday night at Calipatria High School to ensure broader accessibility for community members.
