Pete Hegseth reportedly paid woman after accusing him of sexual assault

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Pete Hegseth, President-Elect Donald Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense, reportedly paid a woman after she accused him of sexual assault.

Hegseth's attorney confirmed to NBC News Sunday that the former Fox News host paid an undisclosed amount in 2023 as part of a civil confidential settlement, which stemmed from an alleged October 2017 assault at a hotel in Monterey, California.

Authorities investigated the allegation at the time and did not file charges against Hegseth.

The Washington Post, on Saturday, reported that a friend of Hegseth's accuser sent a memo to the Trump transistion team detailing the allegations.

NBC News has not independently reviewed the memo.
