Yuma Fight League to host YFL 4

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Fight League continues to provide a platform for local aspiring athletes and is hosting its fourth fight night event this weekend.

We spoke with the league's director who shared how these events help local aspiring fighters take it to the next level.

Yuma native and former professional fighter Chance Farrar is also the league's Director of Operations.

He's adamant about showing the fight world what Yuma has to offer.

"It's no secret that Yuma is a fighting town. We've had some of the best fighters in the world come out of Yuma, Arizona…I believe without these lower level shows that nothing is going to catapult them to those levels without these opportunities," he says.

Combat athletes from across Arizona and California will be competing this weekend in different combat sports like jiu-jitsu, boxing, and mixed martial arts.

Farrar says, "We strive for competitive excellence which means we have to bring in talent from Tucson, San Diego, and Phoenix. Everyone knows the valley is really tough, you've got Brawley and El Centro. There are a lot of clubs down there that have some really talented fighters but we know that without that competition we're doing our athletes a disservice if we don't provide that too."

The action-packed event will be broken into two parts, one will showcase kids and the other the adults.

"No other events do things like this no other event showcases the youth in the cage and lets them have that platform and no other events have that variety that we do," adds Farrar.

Aside from a win, Farrar shares the most important thing the fighters will walk away with.

"It gives these athletes an opportunity to become better athletes. They learn to control that stress and all these other things that go into that experience of achieving a high level in the sport," he adds.

The event will take place on Saturday at Paradise Casino with youth matches beginning at noon and the adults beginning at 6 p.m.
