GoFundMe created to help El Centro mom

Karina Bazarte spoke with the young mom and has the heartwarming story.

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A GoFundMe page was created to help a family get a new car after a video showing a young mom riding on a bike with her two children was posted on a Facebook group.

Elizabeth Adame says she would get on her bike and take her children to school twice a day, but thanks to the community she and her fiancé have a car to make those school trips possible.

"You don't really hear a lot like oh you're doing a good job from your family members so hearing it from the community good enough for me," said Elizabeth Adame, the young mom seen in the video.

Elizabeth Adame, a mother of three children says she received a message from her friend saying someone had posted a video of her riding a bike with her two kids on a Facebook group called Rants and Raves of Imperial Valley.

"And I was like, 'What! I was okay let me check it out,' so I went and it was literally the first post when I opened up that page," said Adame.

The video sparked attention from locals across the Valley, including a woman who started a GoFundMe for the young mom.

"She was doing her best and I felt like she was being judged and put out there for the world to see instead of you know what we should do if offer a helping hand or some world of encouragement or something to help one another and that is not what I saw at all," said Alyson Bennett, creator of the GoFundMe.

At first, the GoFundMe had a goal of $1,500 to buy a new three-seater bike, but it surpassed it's goal helping the family buy a car.

"I really don't ask for much, the support was enough for me and I am just like, I cried a little bit and my fiancée was like, 'It's okay like just say thank you afterwards' and I was like, 'Okay,' and I told my kids, 'Look,' and they were like, 'What is that?' I said, 'The community around us are helping [to] get a car for us to take you guys to school and to have reliable transportation,'" said Adame.

The woman who posted the video, Becky Ruthosky, says all she wanted is for the family to be safe.

"Neither of the children had helmets. She didn't have a helmet either, but the fact that she was riding them on the frame of the bike concerned me and I wanted to draw attention to the fact that she was doing this and see if we can help her in someway shape or form," said Ruthosky.

Footage capture showed the special moment when the creator of the GoFundMe and Adame saw each other on a Zoom interview for the first time, sparking a heartwarming conversation.
