Jersey Mike’s opens in El Centro
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The restaurant Jersey Mike's has officially opened in the Imperial Valley.
Jersey Mike's is located on 1002 N. Imperial Ave. and they had their grand opening Wednesday.
"I think that this brand gives back a lot and believe that the community is under-served in that aspect in order for them to get the big city feel and I believe that the city needed Jersey Mikes it really did...it's a great organization and I am thankful for being part of it," said franchise owner Michael Mattia.
People who waited in line in the morning say they are excited to have a Jersey Mikes in town.
"I've tried Jersey Mikes in San Diego and other cities I've been to...I've been waiting for this one to open...I just live down the street and I told my son, 'I'm going to be the first one in line.' I didn't make it but I'm still here," said Lupe Salaya, a resident of El Centro.
The Mayor of El Centro says this new restaurant will help the city in many ways.
"Not only is the revenue for the business but it’s also revenue for the city as you know we depend on sales tax revenue and so this is going to help us generate even more," said Mayor Sylvia Marroquin
During the grand opening, the franchise says they currently have a fundraiser to support WomanHaven. The fundraiser will end on August 4.
Customers who receive a special fundraising coupon given through a grassroots efforts prior to the opening can make a minimum of $3 contribution to WomanHaven in exchange for a regular sub.
