Pools tested for deadly diseases in Mexicali
MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY) - Public pools are being monitored in Mexicali to prevent deadly diseases, including a brain-eating amoeba that in previous years has claimed several lives in North America.
More than 50 pools have been tested, none of which had high levels of contamination that could cause harm to someone.
The Baja California Health Control Department shares what needs to be done in cases where bacteria is found.
"So far we have had results in seven public pools with bacteria that are within a normal range, we recommend in those cases that they drain the water and do a deep cleaning and then we double check that everything is fine, we have not found anything serious like brain eating amoeba," said State Health Control Director Abraham Felix Moss.
In Mexicali, there are more than 140 swimming pools that will be monitored throughout the summer.
