The Healing Journey hosts a Domestic Violence walk

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)- Tonight The Healing Journey will hosted a Candlelight Walk to raise awareness and support for the victims and survivors of domestic violence.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence one in three women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate person.

The walk began at The Healing Journey's office on 4th Ave. and 22nd Street and went all the way to 16th St. and back to the Healing Journey.

“It’s important to see that everybody shows [to] support and to show awareness as well and how much need their is in our little community here in Yuma,” said Susan James a victim and member of the organization committee of The Healing Journey.

The walk was meant to show support to all victims of domestic violence.

“It was good, I’m glad they're bringing awareness to this cause this is a serious matter. A lot of people don’t know or they don’t take domestic violence serious but it is a serious matter even if it’s just verbal. A lot of people don’t think that’s domestic violence but it is and it escalates worse and that’s what we’re trying to avoid here in the community," said Jamilla Sanchez, an advocate for Safe House.

The Helping Journey and other organizations will continue to seek ways to help these victims.

With James even having a message of her own to those who have suffered through this.

“To not retrieve to yourself, share what you're going through. There is help out there, come to the Healing Journey they will accept you at any any cost any way,” said James.

The Healing Journey will have another walk this Thursday in Somerton to once again raise awareness for all of these victims.
