Local Jewish community reacts to attack in Israel
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Jewish community in Yuma shares their thoughts and feelings about the attack in Israel.
On Saturday, a Palestinian militant group known as Hamas launched a surprise attack in Israel, where people have either been killed, injured or kidnapped, according to CNN.
Michael Herzog, the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, appeared on Face the Nation Sunday, where he said Israel suspects Iran to be involved in the attack, and that Israel will "strike back."
“I cannot fathom the suffering that the people who have been caught and underground in tunnels are going through I am almost empathetic to them I can feel for them,” said Blade Anthony a Veteran and member of the local Jewish Community.
Because of his veteran experience he is able to see the war from a different perspective.
“I’ve been through that as well and I can understand but not understand what they’re going through. War is a not pretty, war is horrible but unfortunately it’s a reality that we as a species, have not yet been able to rid ourselves of that,” said Anthony.
The scenes of war are horrifying on their own, but having family there can make things even more worrisome and hard to watch.
“I’ve been to Israel numerous times growing up as a child to visit my family there, it made the feelings even more difficult because you’re worried about your family,” said Rachael Barkley, a local member of the Jewish community.
Along with the numerous amount of Jewish people suffering, Anthony would also like to remind people that others are suffering as well.
“It’s not just Jews, Israelis, cause a lot of people in Israel are not necessarily Jewish or Israeli they're visiting from other countries. They’re Arab, they’re from Iraq, they’re from Iran, so it’s a people thing.”
