RV trailer home completely destroyed in fire

Rural Metro Fire Department responded to the fire and shares the details

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - An RV home caught on fire around 4 a.m. Friday morning and is a total loss.

The home burned to the ground with nothing salvageable, but luckily three adults and two dogs living in the home were able to get out safely.

Rural Metro Fire responded to the scene on May Avenue in Yuma.

A total of four engines and two water tenders helped put out the blaze within 10 minutes and no hot spots within an hour.

Jeff Woodruff, Rural Metro Fire Battalion Chief says the residents may know what caused the fire.

"The occupant said there was an area outside where they kind of sat around and when he first woke up to the noise, that's what was on fire initially," explains Woodruff.

Woodruff says trailer fires can happen quickly and shares a few tips on how to prevent these kinds of fires.

"You know the trailers, kind of keep the clutter away from the outside of your house. Make sure the weeds and stuff like that are cleaned up well," says Woodruff. "And then unfortunately trailers just because the nature of how they are built, fire spreads through them pretty rapidly so I recommend you have working smoke detectors and you change the battery once a year."

No one was injured in the fire and no other homes were affected.

Rural Metro says the Red Cross came to assist the family.

According to Battalion Chief Woodruff, Rural Metro has responded to about 50 to 75 trailer home fires just this year.
