Excessive warning for our area through Thursday night.

As we enter the month of June, it didn't take much time for our latest round of excessive heat to arrive.

Here in the Desert Southwest, we've had daytime highs reach up to 110 degrees; in both Yuma and El Centro.

A strong ridge of high pressure in the interior West is the source of the excessive heat that will last into Thursday night.

For Thursday, the daytime temperature range should be anywhere from 106 to 113 degrees.

With the heat, comes the increased danger of heat-related illnesses with being exposed to the current elements.

Health officials advise to drink more water than normal and to stay inside an air conditioned environment during the peak hours of the day.

Beyond Thursday, a low pressure disturbance will bring heavier wind speeds and lower our temperatures as much as 10 to 15 degrees starting this upcoming weekend.
